Visio Training – which methods work best?

Visio training improves efficiency and workflow

Microsoft Visio is one of the least-used elements of Microsoft Office, but this is a shame as it is a very flexible and versatile piece of software. For the most part, Visio is employed as a method of producing flowcharts and organisation charts, but in reality this is just scratching the surface of this very capable program.
Anybody using Visio for the first time will probably struggle as the interface is substantially different from other pieces of the Microsoft Office suite, although with the integration of the ribbon in the Visio 2010 version the user interface has become a lot more standardised. Most people that require Visio training want it for the following reasons:
• it will help them in their job
• It will improve their efficiency and workflow
• it will improve their confidence
• it will make using Visio more enjoyable for them
Taking some Visio training will make using Visio easier and more enjoyable
The vast majority of people undergoing Visio training do so in order to be able to complete a specific task or series of tasks so that they can complete a job that they have been assigned. Although there are not many training providers offering Visio training, those that do generally offer a choice of format. But which method is best?
Much of the Visio training is provided in a written format, either as a series of worksheets, in book form or in the form of a training manual complete with exercises. A number of providers also supply Visio training in the form of video tutorials, which have the benefit for the user of being able to watch a technique performed rather than just reading about it.
Each of these methods has its own merit, and current thinking suggests that learning is retained best when these methods are combined. Research has shown that watching something being done and described simultaneously gives the best understanding; if the user is then allowed to practice this technique themselves in a “hands on” fashion that knowledge is consolidated. This method is generally accepted as being the best way of Visio training, or indeed training for any other type of software.
In order to be successful any Visio training should:
• Be specific to one topic per lesson
• Introduce concepts progressively
• Be easy to understand
• Be easy to follow
• Allow time for consolidation before moving on
User Paced Visio Training
It is important that anybody taking a programme of Visio training is able to start and stop their training and whenever they want. It is often impossible to continue a programme of training due to pressures of work or other external forces, so having the training arranged as our Visio Tutorials are in such a way that allows people to reach a specific point and put the training on hold for a while . They can then return to it when time allows and pick up their Visio training where they left off.
Our Visio training programme is progressive and incremental, and because it is delivered in a video format backed up by practice files it is user-paced; this gives the learner the greatest degree of flexibility and control and according to our feedback, is the best method of learning how to use Microsoft Visio.
